A proposition to reduce the minimum selling price for former Philip Livingston Magnet Academy

Proposition #3

Shall the Board of Education of the City School

District of Albany be authorized to sell the real property

commonly known as Philip Livingston Magnet

Academy, located at 315 Northern Boulevard, Albany,

N.Y., for a selling price not less than $3,250,000.

When voters visit the polls Tuesday, May 17 to decide on the City School District of Albany's $206.5 million budget proposal for 2011-12, a separate resolution on the ballot (Proposition #3, see box at right) will ask them to authorize the district to sell the former Philip Livingston Magnet Academy for at least $3.25 million.

In May 2010, voters overwhelmingly approved a proposition authorizing the district to sell the property for at least $4.5 million. However, due to market conditions it is necessary to lower the minimum selling price.

There will be two more propositions on the May 17 ballot related to the school district:

  • Proposition #2 will ask the public to authorize the sale of the district building at 270-272 Central Ave., home to the Buildings and Grounds staff. The staff and all equipment are relocating to the former Harriet Gibbons High School (now Central Registration) at 75 Watervliet Ave.

  • Proposition #4 will ask voters to approve a no-cost facilities project to improve Giffen Memorial Elementary School, Abrookin Vocational-Technical Center and Albany High School. The full cost of the $11.4 million project would be covered by state building aid -- regular building aid and EXCEL building aid. All work would be done at no cost to taxpayers.
