Academy student Antwan Henry and faculty and staff members from the
school spent a recent afternoon at Yankees Stadium as part of the
"Exceeding Expecatations Award" Antwan was honored with by Fox 23, the
River 99.5 FM and Raymour & Flanigan Furniture. Philip Livingston
English teacher Amie Chermack nominated Antwan for the award based
on the fact that he overcame personal obstacles and showed the most
academic improvement this year.
"Antwan has worked very
hard this year to improve himself as a student," she wrote in his
nomination essay. "Virtually every teacher who works with Antwan has
remarked on his wonderful turnaround. ... He's a great young man and it
has been extremely rwarding working with him."
Along withAntwan and Mrs.
Chermack, Philip Livingston Science teacher Mr. McCarthy, Home-School
Coordinator Mr. Reid, Social Worker Mrs. Holt, and Antwan's cousin
Travis attended the Yankees game.
The "Exceeding
Expectations Award" came with season passes to the Great Escape, an IPod,
and three sets of tickets to concerts at SPAC, in addition to the
roundtrip to Yankee Stadium. Antwan was also spotlighted on FOX News23
for his achievements.
