Music
students at Arbor Hill Elementary School have been showcased on
television locally. They have taken the famed stage at the Boston
Conservatory of Music. And now, they have performed under the tutelage
of well-known international percussionist Felle Vega.
Vega and drummer Marco Haber of the Albany-based band Mudfunk led a percussion workshop with about 15 Arbor Hill music
students on June 20 at the school. Students played Latin American
instruments such as djembe and tubanos.
Vega has shared the stage with the likes of Sting and
Latin Legends Arturo Sandoval and Sergio Mendez.
Arbor Hill music teacher Ian Golub, a friend of Haber,
said he was thrilled to have musicians who have travelled the globe make
a stop into his music room. This was the first-ever school music
workshop by Haber and Vega, and they hope to do more.
"We want to show the students that music is available to
everyone by being inventive with your environment," Haber said.
