Parent-teacher conferences at all levels set for Nov. 7, 2006

The district will hold parent-teacher conferences at all levels on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Parent-teacher conferences are a time for parents to receive information about their child’s academic progress, ask questions, share information that a teacher might find helpful, and develop a plan to continue or improve their child’s academic growth. The conferences are one important piece of a strong home-school relationship.

Educational research has shown that children of parents who are highly involved in their education have a better chance of earning higher grades, having better attendance, seeking more challenging academic environments, and ultimately graduating and going on to college.

This year, the district extended the conferences to the secondary levels – middle and high school. This is because these years are when students’ goals are starting to come into focus, and it is critical that parents and students begin to plan for the future, particularly a successful college application process.

At the secondary level, guidance counselors will also be available to meet with parents. At Albany High School, parents are also invited to visit the school’s College Center.

Information has been sent to parents regarding scheduling a conference and/or the schedule for the day at their child's school. Parents should contact their child’s school for more information or if they have not made an appointment and would like to.

For school contact information, please visit http://www.albanyschools.org/district/AtoZ/SchoolDirectory.html

Please note that there is no school for students on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

More detailed information is available here for the following schools:

  • Harriet Gibbons High School is providing daycare, transportation, phone conferencing, and will schedule home visits.
