Harry Corbitt, director of safe
schools and violence prevention, said: “Our goal is to
provide a safe environment for students and staff at Albany
High School. The majority of students were cooperative as we
conducted a search of all students during the beginning of
school this morning. Like anything else, we will review what
took place today, and learn from it. Today was the beginning
of a change; We had a unique situation on Friday and we made
adjustments. For the rest of the year, we will employ a
variety of techniques and strategies to ensure safety in the
schools. Our partnership with the police department is
strong, and we will continue to routinely share information.
As the year continues, we will make more adjustments to
adapt to specific situations and react to information as it
develops. Our objective, a learning environment where
students are encouraged to make the most of their
opportunities without distractions, remains the same. The
techniques used to reach that objective will change
depending on the situation.”
