Enrollment reminders for families

The City School District of Albany monitors our schools' enrollment closely year-round. It is our goal to make sure our class sizes are conducive to learning.

Please be aware that grade levels at some schools may reach our recommended enrollment limits. When that happens, new student registration into those grades and schools will be closed. If you have any questions about enrollment in specific grade levels at any of our schools, please contact our Central Registration Office at (518) 475-6125.

Registering your child for school is as easy as ABC
The City School District of Albany wants to make the school registration process as easy as possible for busy families. We understand that it can be confusing trying to figure out which of the district's schools your child will attend.

To alleviate some of the confusion and help families get all the information they need, and to assist in completing all the proper forms, the district operates a Central Registration Office where everything is under one roof. Parents or guardians of elementary, middle and high school children should go to Central Registration to enroll their children in school. The office is located at 75 Watervliet Ave., off of Central Avenue near Westgate Plaza in the former Harriet Gibbons High School building.

A parent or guardian must, in person, register a child. Registration by fax or e-mail is not permitted.

You can call Central Registration for additional information at (518) 475-6125, and check out the Required Documents section to find out what you will need to register your child for school

School attendance zones

All students must be registered at Central Registration, but before you go you can search our list of school attendance zones to find out which elementary and middle school your child will attend based on where you live. To search for your school, click here to open the list of attendance zones and use "Ctrl-F" to search for your street name (e.g., First Street or Zoar Avenue).

Please note that the list does not include the district's three magnet elementary schools, which are enrolled each spring via lottery. Call (518) 475-6551 for more information.

Hours of Operation are from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you are unable to visit Central Registration during the hours of operation, exceptions can be made. Please call (518) 475-6125 to make an appointment.

Helping you save time
