'Dream job' for new Albany High football coach

The last time Albany High School had a championshp football season, Mike Ware was excited to see it end.

Ware was a freshman on the Yonkers Roosevelt team that beat the Falcons 34-27 in the 1996 state quarterfinals, the last time Albany High won the Section II title. Ware didn’t get into that game, but he played a part in helping Roosevelt, the eventual state champion, prep for the high-scoring Falcons.

Twenty-one years later, Ware is now in charge on the other side of the field and hoping to build on the resurgence the Albany High program has enjoyed the past two years. Please visit our Athletics News section to read more.

Show your Falcon pride with Falcon apparel

You can wear your Falcon pride on your sleeve (and other places) thanks to a range of other apparel that's available online or at the school store, Falcon Rock. Click here or on the box in the upper right-hand corner of the page to shop online.

Director's Memo: Sports are a time commitment
Updated for the fall 2017 sports season
Sports are a time commitment.

If you are participating in a varsity, JV or modified (grades7-8) sport, please keep in mind that you are making a commitment to your team and that sport. To be fair, each player must make the commitment to be present at each practice and contest throughout the season before tryouts begin. This weighs heavily on the decisions made by coaches when they determine their rosters. A schedule is given at the beginning of each team’s season and is also available before tryouts upon request. Athletic offerings

The City School District of Albany offers students an opportunity for athletic competition in the 2016-17 school year in grades 7-12 at Hackett Middle School, Myers Middle School, North Albany Academy, West Hill Middle School and Albany High School. With middle school realignment in 2017-18, the district will offer modified sports (grades 7-8) at Hackett, Myers and the new middle school at 50 North Lark St. (boys' and girls' basketball only). See below for a breakdown of teams and the location for their practices.

The district's athletic teams compete in the Suburban Council. The district is also a member of the Tri-County Indoor Track League.

The district offers 12 female sports activities on 29 teams at varying levels of competition, and 12 male sports activities on 31 teams at varying levels of competition. Each year more than 1,000 athletes go through the district's program coached by certified athletic coaches.
