Morris powers Albany High boys' track team
to first Eddy team championship in 27
years
Albany High School’s boys’ track team won its first team
championship in 27 years at the prestigious William F. Eddy Jr. Meet at
Union College on May 16.
As he has all season, Kareem Morris led the way. He was
the meet’s only three-time winner, taking the 100 meters and 200 meters,
and running the second leg for the Falcons’ victorious 400-meter relay
team, which also included Jalon Scott, Corey Harris and Fuad Jusic.
Kareem was named the meet’s outstanding athlete for his
performance.
Alex Schettino also scored valuable points for the
Falcons, finishing third in the pole vault as Albany edged downstate
power Uniondale by one point, 36-35. More than 90 schools and 750
athletes from across the state took part in the 69th annual
Eddy meet.
The Falcons last won the Eddy team championship in 1982. You can read
more about Albany’s performance in the
May 17
Sunday Gazette.
The City School
District of Albany serves approximately 8,300 students in 18
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several
magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic
opportunities for students. The
district is nearing completion of its comprehensive facilities
project to newly
build or renovate nearly all of its elementary
and middle
schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is
to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students
succeed in the 21st century.
