School track records fall
at
Johnstown Invitational
Jalon Scott, Kareem
Morris, Corey Harris and Fuad Jusic broke a 28-year-old school record in the
4x100-meter relay at the Johnstown Invitational meet May 9.
With a time of 42.9 seconds, the team broke the Albany High School
record of 43.1 seconds, which was set in 1981. The time was also a meet
record.
In the 4x200-meter
relay, Harris, Jusic, Jahmaal Arrington and Morris broke the Albany High
record with a hand-timed finish of 1:30.7. Because the race was
hand-timed, 24-hundredths of a second will be added. The official time
of 1:30.94 surpasses the fully automatic record of 1:31.19 set in 2006.
The City School
District of Albany serves approximately 8,300 students in 18
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several
magnet schools and programs, as well as other innovative academic
opportunities for students. The
district is nearing completion of its comprehensive facilities
project to newly
build or renovate nearly all of its elementary
and middle
schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is
to provide schools with the resources necessary to help students
succeed in the 21st century.
