When the weather's hot, so is he: Kareem Morris named
Times Union 'Athlete of the Week'
The Times Union has named Albany High
School track prodigy Kareem Morris "Athlete of the Week."
Morris -- who in 2009 led Section II in the
100 meter and 200 meter and was part of the winning 400-meter relay team
-- has dominated Albany High and Capital Region teams for the past three
years. He continues to command those events and also competes in the
1,600-meter relay and the long and triple jumps.
As if that's not enough, this year he
expanded his repertoire to include the 3 x 110-meter high-hurdle relay.
He was part of the winning team that set a meet record in that event on
May 1 at the 45th Colonie Relays. And he won the 200 a week earlier at
the Schenectady Invitational, along with finishing first in the 400 with
teammates Shaquielle Murrell, Jaah-mel Arrington and Dashawn Gates.
Both recent meets took place in
above-average temperatures. All the better for Morris.
"When it's hot, I usually do better," he
told the Times Union.
