The New York State Education
Department mandates that all public-school districts give state tests in
English language arts and math to all students in grades 3-8, and in science
and social studies to all students in grades 4 and
8.
High-school students in New
York are required to pass five Regents exams in order to graduate -- English, Math A,
Global History, U.S. History and Government and one science subject
area.
