Extended-day programs

Extended-day programs exist at all City School District of Albany schools. Besides designated child-care programs for younger students, there are numerous clubs and activities available beyond the normal school day.

These programs offer child care for working parents and provide students with extended learning and enrichment activities that contribute to a well-rounded educational experience.

Programs at elementary and middle schools typically start at dismissal time and end around 5:30 p.m. They include homework time and academic assistance, enrichment clubs, outdoor play (weather permitting), games and arts and crafts. Character development also is a focus in all of the extended-day programs.

Many of these after-school care programs are run and funded by community organizations and entities. Please note that many of the programs are overseen by organizations that operate independent of the school district. Admission into those programs is determined by the independent organization, not the school district.

Outside organizations with programs in district schools include:

  • Albany Police Athletic League

  • All About Kids at Advanced Therapy

  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Albany

  • Capital District YMCA
