ALBANY, N.Y. (April 23, 2009) --
Three additional City School District of Albany elementary schools will
keep sixth grade next year as the district enters into the first year of
its new middle school alignment.
Arbor Hill Elementary School, Eagle Point
Elementary School and Pine Hills Elementary School each will have this
year’s fifth-graders move up in 2009-10. They will join Albany School of
Humanities (ASH) and Giffen Memorial Elementary School as elementary
schools serving students from prekindergarten through sixth grade.
Students in fifth grade this year at the
district’s other seven elementary schools will move on to middle school
next year according to
the feeder
plan approved by the Board of Education in February. Please
contact your school directly if you have questions; you can find contact
information by following the links on the
Our Schools home page.
With the middle school program at Philip
Livingston Magnet Academy closing after this year due to declining
enrollment, Stephen and Harriet Myers Middle School and William S.
Hackett Middle School will be the district’s primary schools for
students in grades 6-8 beginning next year.
North Albany Academy also will continue to
serve students from pre-K through grade 8.
The City
School District of Albany serves approximately 8,300 students in 18
elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to neighborhood
schools, the district includes several magnet schools and programs, as
well as other innovative academic opportunities for students. The
district is more than halfway through its comprehensive facilities
project to newly build and/or renovate nearly all of its elementary and
middle schools. The ultimate goal of the facilities project is to
provide schools with the resources necessary to help students succeed in
the 21st century.
