As
much as Carlaysha and Carniesha Lumpkin have in common, these two
spitfires are as distinctly different as identical twins can be.
Their voices sound the same – sweet, high-pitched sounds filled
with mischief and teasing tones. Their hair is the same color and they
used to wear matching outfits.
Now as they wheel the halls of Myers,
their outfits are as distinctly different as each of their thick hair is
uniquely styled and cut.
Yes, they each have motorized wheelchairs (when
Carniesha is not rolling through sprinklers), but Carniesha’s is blue
and Carlaysha’s is red. Both love to read; Carlaysha loves girl drama
books and Carniesha loves “Twilight”-type books.
This year they’re in
eighth grade, the “big kids” in the building, and looking forward to the
same things as their classmates: parties, laughing with friends and
going to the mall on weekends.
They face physical challenges every day
with such grace, laughter and intelligence that their optimism is
contagious to everyone at Myers.
