Students and staff at Thomas O’Brien Academy of Science and Technology
(TOAST) returned to their familiar Lincoln Park home in January to find
a school updated and equipped throughout with 21st-century
technology.
The homecoming capped a renovation project that ran from
summer 2008 through the end of 2009. During that time, the school
underwent a series of renovations that completely updated the building
to a state-of-the-art facility. The school temporarily was located in
the former Schuyler Elementary School during the 2008-09 school year and
the first four months of this school year.
High-tech computer equipment is the most exciting change
for this school that emphasizes science and technology. Every classroom
from kindergarten through fifth grade has three to five desktop
computers. Students and staff also have access to iMacs, Netbooks and
SMART Boards.
The completion of the TOAST renovation leaves just one school to be
finished in the City School District of Albany’s decade-long facilities
project. Arbor Hill Elementary School will return to 1 Arbor Drive at
the start of the 2010-11 school year, closing the historic effort to
rebuild or renovate the district’s elementary and middle schools.
