Where Will
Students Attend School During Construction & Renovation?
Working closely with the
Facilities Project Office, the City School District of Albany has
carefully developed a swing space plan that keeps the disruption of
student learning to a minimum.
During the construction and
renovation of the district's elementary and middle schools, students and
their schools will be housed in the former Philip Schuyler Elementary
School on Western Avenue, with the exception of the former School 18 and
School 19, which will be relocated to the former Montessori School
Building on Park Avenue.

While Arbor Hill Elementary is renovated during
the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years as part of the City School District
of Albany's facilities project, the school temporarily will relocate to
the former Philip Schuyler Elementary School at 141 Western Ave.
Students from Thomas O'Brien Academy of Science and Technology (TOAST)
also will be located at Philip Schuyler Elementary during the 2008-09
school year only due to facilities work at that elementary building.
New Scotland Elementary School (formerly PS 19)
-
2007-08 school year
-
New Scotland Elementary School students in grades 1-5 will attend
school at the former Montessori Magnet School at 75 Park Avenue. The
building is a former Catholic School that the district leases from
the Catholic Diocese.
-
Students in grade 6 will attend a middle school,
which has been the practice when schools under construction
transition to swing space.
-
Students in Kindergarten that would have attended
New Scotland Elementary School will attend Kindergarten at Eagle Point Elementary School
at 1044 Western Avenue. New Scotland Elementary School Kindergarten classes will be
separate from Eagle Point kindergarten classes in order to keep the
school’s students together.
-
Fall of 2008
-
In order to limit transitions, New Scotland Elementary students
who attended kindergarten at Eagle Point for the 2007-08 school year
will attend first grade at Eagle Point for the first half of 2008.
-
New Scotland Elementary students in kindergarten and grades
2-5 will attend school at the former Montessori School.
-
Students who are in 6th grade will move on to
middle school
-
January 2009:
New Scotland Elementary will be unified in its brand new building at its original
location on 369 New Scotland Avenue.
*The original facilities plan called
for New Scotland Elementary (formerly PS 19) and William S. Hackett Middle School to share the Philip
Schuyler Elementary School Building while both schools were under
construction. That original plan would have presented significant space
constraints at Philip Schuyler, so an alternative plan for School 19 had
to be developed.
